Drones and robots at work for our customers
Seven projects from photovoltaics, construction, energy supply and emergency services.

Intrusion and theft protection at a solar farm
- Challenge
- Solar farms are extensive and usually unguarded at night. They are repeatedly targeted by cable and module thieves. Beyond the damage itself, the worst case is a shutdown of the entire solar farm.
- System design
- GPS motion sensors on cables and modules detect any movement and every attempted theft. CyberXHub then raises the alarm in the control room. A drone flies to the reported location and transmits a live feed to the control room. The sensors on stolen cables can be tracked by GPS for up to five hours.
- Result
- The solar farm is secured, and stolen cables and modules can be located for up to five hours.

Monitoring a solar park from a drone dock
- Challenge
- A solar park covers a large area. Faults in the modules need to be spotted without sending a team out every time.
- System design
- At EnBW's solar park in Maßbach we installed a DJI Dock 2 on the transformer station. The 34-kilogram dock was lifted up there by the DJI FlyCart 30 heavy-lift drone, which carries up to 40 kilograms.
- Result
- The drone inspects the modules in visible light and infrared and flies automatically. It is launched remotely. If it detects faults, the maintenance team goes out well prepared.

Digital construction documentation from a drone dock
- Challenge
- On infrastructure construction sites, progress, evidence and acceptance inspections have to be documented again and again. Until now this has often happened at irregular intervals and by different specialists, which frequently leaves the data patchy and unclear.
- System design
- A DJI drone dock is installed on the construction site. On a fixed schedule, it sends out a drone that captures photos and video of the site. CyberXHub then stores the data on the customer's own servers. The images are turned into GeoTIFFs that go straight into the GIS.
- Result
- Regular, comparable images and less work for staff on site. The customer retains data sovereignty.
Aerial fault finding on overhead lines
- Challenge
- Faults occur on overhead lines time and again. It often remains unclear what caused them and how serious the problem is until specialists can inspect the location on site.
- System design
- A DJI drone dock is installed near the power line and CyberXHub is integrated into the customer's cloud IT. When a fault is reported, the drone flies to the affected section of the line and transmits a live feed to the control room. The control room can then send the right specialists with the right tools straight away.
- Result
- An early picture of the fault enables a fast, efficient repair and keeps the supply secure.

Automated inspection of high-voltage lines
- Challenge
- Inspecting overhead line pylons has meant climbing or helicopter flights. Damage to the pylons and foreign objects such as bird nests still need to be spotted quickly.
- System design
- Together with Netze BW we tested the DJI Matrice 4E for the automated inspection of high-voltage lines. The drone flies the pylons without anyone climbing them and delivers high-resolution images and distance measurements.
- Result
- Greater occupational safety and more detailed results through AI analysis and close-up imagery, plus potential savings in travel time, helicopter missions and CO₂.

Digital construction documentation and monitoring of critical infrastructure
- Challenge
- When building a solar farm, the developer needs complete construction documentation. After commissioning, the difficult terrain also calls for condition monitoring and a security plan.
- System design
- A DJI drone dock enables regular flights that document construction progress. Once the farm is complete, the same system monitors it. All missions are planned, flown and monitored in CyberXHub.
- Result
- Fully digital construction documentation and continuous monitoring of the solar farm.

Ice rescue with a cargo drone
- Challenge
- In ice and water rescue, every minute counts. How quickly rescuers reach the casualty can mean the difference between life and death.
- System design
- The DJI FlyCart 100 is a cargo drone with a payload of up to 100 kilograms. Rescuers use it to take a line to the casualty and pull them to the shore. The approach was trialled together with the Wasserwacht at Lake Brombach.
- Result
- The drone reaches casualties even where no boat can operate on the ice, shortening the time to rescue.
“We see big advantages in this, especially in ice rescue.”Wasserwacht rescuer
